An earthquake with the magnitude of 5.9 Mw hit the Qeshm
island, Hormuzgan Province in southern Iran, at 10:22:19 (UTC)
on 27 November 2005. Qeshm, a 1500-km2 Island off the coast
southwest of Bandar Abbas has a population of more than
120,000. The earthquake was felt for more than 10 s, killed 10
and injured around 100 people. The quake’s epicenter was
reported to be Dargahan Port at the north of the Island in the
village of Ziranag which was more than 80% destroyed and at
least seven villages severely damaged in Qeshm. The quake was
16 km deep.
