Timbre Group launches two DAS-equipped venues
SINGAPORE: In an effort to become a comprehensive music lifestyle group, live music specialist Timbre Group has recently launched two new ventures in Singapore, named Timbre@Gillman and Barber Shop by Timbre. After successful installations in previous Timbre Group venues, DAS Audio was once again called upon to provide the sound reinforcement.
An extension of Timbre@Arts House, Barber Shop by Timbre is an exclusive indoor blues venue located at The Arts House – an almost 200-year-old historical building that previously housed Singapore’s first parliament. After installing DAS Audio’s Aero 8As in Timbre’s Switch venue, operators wished to install the same system at Barber Shop. However, the venue’s low-ceilings made it impossible to ACCOMMODATE THE minimum four-per-side configuration of the Aero 8As, prompting the sound team to install two Convert 12As in a single-unit configuration instead.
With a press of a button the Convert 12A can be ‘converted’ from a single-unit point-source system to curved-source arrays. Two Convert 18A powered subwoofer systems were also set up to provide extended bass response, and the entire network was connected to a DSP-4080 signal processor. The DSP-4080 gives system operators the power to tailor the subwoofer’s outputs through the mixing console, giving the Barber Shop’s system the versatility to ACCOMMODATE DJs and jazz/blues trios.
Meanwhile, Timbre@Gillman is located at Gillman Barracks, a conserved colonial barracks that now houses galleries and creative businesses as well as the Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA). Timbre’s largest venue provides food, drinks and a range of live music in an open-air environment where local artists perform on an 8m stage amongst the surrounding greenery. Here, the DAS Audio team opted to distribute 12 Artec 8 two-way passive systems, flown on the horizontal beams of the venue’s canopy, which were matched with six D-10 stereo amplifiers.
An individual D-10 amplifier channel powers each Artec 8 unit, and each signal is then processed by its very own DSP-2040 (three of these digital signal processers were brought in for Timbre@Gillman) output channel. The speakers can be time-aligned to ensure coherency between the systems on the low frequencies, resulting in an even bass coverage across the whole venue.
‘Embarking on a partnership with DAS has been a sound decision for Timbre Group,’ said Danny Loong, chief creative director at Timbre Group. ‘Top-notch sound and production at our venues is crucial to maintaining a memorable and enjoyable Timbre Experience for our customers. Sound quality has improved throughout all our live music venues since DAS systems have been installed and the attentive after-service support rendered to our production team has also been beneficial. DAS Audio’s holistic approach proves that they have the right products and expertise for the job.’
