Devianceanalysis showed no significant differences between years,
between seasons, or between seasons within each year
when the abundance of faecal coliform (FC) or enterococci
(FE) were considered. However, the abundance of
these bacterial groups was significantly related to pH. By
contrast, there were significant differences in the abundanceof TC between years and between seasons. TC was
significantly more abundant in 2001 than in 2002, and
during the dry season than during the rainy season (Figure
3). However, the abundance of TC was not significantly
related to any of the environmental variables recorded
(pH, temperature, conductivity and dissolved oxygen concentration).
