The number of patients with allergic contact dermatitis has surged during the period from July to August in South Korea.
Allergic contact dermatitis is a form of contact dermatitis that is the manifestation of an allergic response caused by contact with substances such as cosmetics and necklaces.
According to the National Health Insurance Service, the number of the patients who visited the hospitals due to the disease came to 680,000 and 710,000 each in the July and August period, the highest figure since 2009.
The first sign of allergic contact dermatitis is the presence of the rash or skin lesion at the site of exposure. The rash can ooze, drain or crust and it can become raw, scaled or thickened.
Women are more likely to get the disease because they wear more makeup and jewelry than men, having higher possibilities of being exposed to the causing substances, medical experts said,
Experts say that if the disease occurs after using a certain product, users should stop using the products because the ingredients inside the goods may cause the disease again.
