Additional societal influences that are discussed

• ingrained, often traditional attitudes that in
some respects deny or ignore children’s
rights;
• the presence in some societies of traditional
justice systems that, while having some
advantages, can also work to children’s
detriment;
• particularly discriminatory attitudes,
practices, policies and/or laws as they
pertain to girls and/or minority children;
• similarly burdensome constraints that
affect children with disabilities and those
experiencing poverty or difficult family
circumstances.
