Pay attention to what you are taking out of a flowing stream, and don't remove everything. Shady pools form around logs and rocks. A dumped tree stump may be the perfect for a river otter. The bedsprings may provide a hiding place for some unseen creatures. It might be more destructive to disturb the stream bottom than it would be to leave old junk in place. Find out how deep the "garbage" you want to remove is buried. If it is more than 50 percent buried, consider it part of the stream habitat.
