rebirth of classical architecture—which we call the Renaissance—as the Florentines
listened to the perfection of the music that created the effect of
“songs descending from the heavens unto us below . . . murmur[ing] in our
ears something of the ineffable and of the divine” (Giannozzo Manetti).
