Job Description:
Assist general and special education staff in developing, implementing and maintaining District and State of Colorado standards, special education policies, curriculum, literacy, IEP development and implementation, English Language Acquisition (ELA), behavioral plans, research and resolution of designated legal issues, identifying and creating Least Restrictive Environment (LRE), accommodations/modifications, classroom organization, and environment/behavioral management. Project manages ESY district implementation. • Identify resources available for students in out-of-district facilities. • Monitor and ensure that the needs of DPS students with disabilities are being met while in placement in a facility. • Provide special educators with directions, timelines, and pertinent information for registering students in the ESY Program, and monitor day to day operations. • Develop a budget for the ESY Program, manage ESY registrations, and determine sites, staff, and classrooms. • Provide support for building school capacity in the area of Response to Instruction (RtI) for students with disabilities. • Implement IDEIA and complies with state and federal regulations. • Participate as a liaison to the Location Determination Team, and as a liaison between teachers and parents to the Department of Special Education. • Advocate for the special education student needs and provides peer group opportunities to support the social, emotional and other affective needs. • Attend Eligibility and Special Evaluation Meetings for DPS students placed in an out-of-district facility. • Communicate the Division of Student Services’ policies and procedures to eligible facilities and ESY procedures with Program Managers and case managers. • Develop, support and implement tracking tools for ESY compliance and for CDE approved facilities IEP’s and monitors data. • Organize job applications to prioritize students’ needs in conjunction with experience and expertise. • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Education or related area. • Master’s degree in Special Education preferred. • Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience successfully providing staff development training in special education, and teaching or leading special education students with highly diverse needs or disabilities, preferably within a large urban school district. • Technical experience designing, developing and administering national resources and materials appropriate for special education students. • Must pass District approved written and physical exams covering de-escalation and physical restraint training, on an annual basis. Required training must be completed within 75 days of initial hire. • Experience working with operating systems including Windows, Macintosh and other proprietary systems. • Experience in leadership role in collaborative settings
