Synsepalum dulcificum is a tropical fruit, native to West Africa. The plant belongs to the family – Sapotaceae. Although it can grow up to 20 feet high, its predominant form is shrubby. The plant first bears fruits after growing for approximately 2–3 years. At times, it produces two crops per year, often around March–April and later, after the rainy season. It produces green elongated leaves which remain green as long as they remain attached to the plant all year long
