The main purpose of this study was to investigate the
prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms among a group of
office workers with frequent computer use. We found the
prevalence was high among this group, especially in the
shoulder, neck, and upper back areas. The subjects in the
high workload group had a higher prevalence of such
symptoms than the lower workload group. In addition, high
psychologic distress is significantly associated with shoulder
and upper back pain, whereas high workload is
associated with lower back pain. Moreover, women tend
to have a greater risk of shoulder complaints than men.
