hotel policy/law

I've been on TA for quite a while, reading posts about Vietnam and sure enough, I want to go there for vacation, a 2 weeks vacation. I am still confused about their hotel policy about no 'foreigner' are to share a room with a Vietnamese woman unless they are legally married.
------
but what if i am a 'Viet Kieu?'
and how about the policy of sharing a room with a vietnamese relative? I'll have to depend on my uncle's daughter to show me around and that would require her to stay at where i am staying at because she doesn't live in the city and would be a hassle for her to travel 2-4 hours a day on motorcycle to the city. When i bring her into the hotel, can i just tell the front desk that she is my 'sister?' or that is still against the laws?
