TWO women have died after their car was involved in a crash with two trucks on Sydney's M5 motorway where others were injured in Sydney's southwest
The vehicles collided near Henry Lawson Drive at Milperra, in Sydney's southwest, about 10.30am (AEDT) today, reportedThe Daily Telegraph.
One woman died at the scene, while the second was pronounced dead after being taken to Liverpool Hospital with critical injuries.
Police say the second woman was a passenger in the rear of the small red sedan.
Two other passengers of the car remain in a serious but stable condition at Liverpool Hospital.
Two people in one of the trucks involved were treated for minor injuries before being taken to Bankstown Hospital in a stable condition.
Several other people caught up in the accident declined treatment at the scene.
A Careflight helicopter came to the scene and ambulance paramedics freed six patients from their vehicles.
The M5 remains closed to citybound traffic following the accident – with citybound traffic being diverted off the M5 at Heathcote Road.
“Motorists can then travel along Newbridge Road and re-join the M5 citybound at Henry Lawson Drive,” a Transport Management Centre spokesman said.
“One outbound lane remains open, however significant delays are being experienced.
“Additionally, outbound lanes maybe closed intermittently closed to allow Police to investigate the cause of the accident and allow the salvage of the vehicles.”
Emergency services, RMS traffic management crews and the Police Crash Investigation Unit remain onsite.
Motorists should stay away from the M5 Motorway, the spokesman said.
“Due to the seriousness of this incident, there is no forecast available as to when the M5 citybound will be reopened.”
