Bio-butanol is typically produced during the acetone–butanol– ethanol (ABE) fermentation process from biomass. Its production efficiency, however, is quite low, even though the fermentation process has been improved a lot [17]. Compared to butanol production, the yeast ethanol fermentation process has a 10–30 times higher production rate [18]. In addition, the dehydration and recovery of butanol from ABE fermentation mixture expends a lot of money and energy. As a result, the cost of butanol is high, which has hindered its extensive use
