This paper proposes a new concept of the integration of design and manufacturing system with a haptic
device and 5-axis milling interface. The system is so-called “5-axis haptic jewelry design and manufacturing system”.
The system offers the tool path generator that can automatically generate the 5-axis machine’s toolpath through the
movement of a haptic finger on a virtual workpiece. The generator then creates a set of standard motion of a cutting
tool. There is also the force feedback, provided in the system. By the interaction of the haptic tool and the virtual
workpiece, the force feedbacks offer the realistic feeling to the user while removing the material from the part and
interacting between the user and the haptic device throughout the process. Later on, the tool path can be executed
and postprocessed as a CNC program. The proposed system makes 5-axis CNC programming easier and more
intuitive. The CNC programming process can be carried out by goldsmiths instead of CNC programmers.
