Purpose: A process essay tells the reader how to do something (directed essay) or explains how a process occurs (operational essay).
Introduction: We introduce the topic, state what we will explain, and why it might be useful for the reader.
Body: We present the steps of the process in order.
Conclusion: We state what we have achieved at the end of the process.
Language: Use imperatives, and the impersonal ‘you’.
Other considerations: The essay should contain enough information for the reader to be able to carry out the process him/herself.
