The present research tested an expert-derived algorithm to
examine the accuracy of weekly couple therapy progress monitoring
in detecting off-track clients early in the course of therapy.
The current research used archival data from a program of research
assessing the effectiveness of couple therapy. In
that effectiveness trial, two different clinical sites used different
approaches to couple therapy: a brief, problem focussed communication
skill training approach was used at one site and a more
extensive integrative approach at the other site. The existence of
these two approaches allowed a comparison of whether the algorithm
had similar predictive power across different couple therapy
approaches.
