A split-dose regimen of a low-volume bowel preparation composed of sodium picosulfate and magnesium citrate
(P/MC) provided superior colon cleansing in patients preparing for colonoscopy with greater patient tolerability
and equivalent short-term safety compared with daybefore dosing of 2L PEG-3350 and bisacodyl tablets. Considering
the results of this study and another study that compared day-before dosing of P/MC with day before 2L
PEG-3350 and bisacodyl tablets, split dosing is the optimal regimen for administering P/MC. The authors anticipate
P/MC to be a valuable addition to the armamentarium of bowel preparations available in the United States.
