The wild-type strain caused severe symptoms on seedlings
and on spikelets. The disease index on seedlings of
R1-1 and R2 did not differ from the control, but R1-2
caused mild symptoms (Fig. 2b). On the other hand, R1-1
was not pathogenic on spikelets or on seedlings, while R1-
2 and R2 were pathogenic on spikelets but caused milder
symptoms than the wild-type strain did (Fig. 2c).
