Human resource planning is the process of analyzing an organization’s human resource needs and determining how to best fill them. The goal is to make sure that the best people are always in place when needed by the organization.
Strategic human resource planning begins with a review of organizational mission, objectives, and strategies. This establishes a frame of reference for forecasting human resource needs and labor supplies. Ultimately, the planning process should help managers identify staffing requirements, assess the existing workforce, and determine what additions and/or replacements are required to meet future needs.
