At the London Ivy League study abroad site, I will be learning under a new academic system and environment and completing coursework from a rich variety of strong pre-med health and core liberal arts classes. My required coursework would be in the areas of Writing, Organic Chemistry, and Public Health In addition to the challenging courses, I believe I will be able to learn, interact and contribute to the stimulating, spirited and intellectual environment in and out of the classroom with motivated students and international students studying at London campus. I intend do research in public health through local hospitals and fieldwork that will prepare me for internships when I return to my home university.
Studying abroad in London will allow me to complete one of the six core components of my pre-health concentration. I will be able to better understand public health by learning about health policies and strategies in London. By doing research and working closely with doctors, scientists and other healthcare professionals I will acquire a better sense of how politicians and large medicine distributors and industries function in the UK and how cultural norms affect individual access to healthcare. This experience and learning process would be crucial in identifying how I would approach working in public health in London as opposed to in New York and observing similarities and differences in the two major cities.
