Evaluation of self-reported dietary information
The accuracy of the dietary data were validated by obtaining the percentage of discrepancy between the energy
intake (EI) and the TEE of each participant, which is an
adequate method for assessing the validity of reported EI
when is not available as a gold standard method (e.g.
doubly-labelled water) (Rangan et al., 2011). In addition,
it is an indicator of the degree of under-reporting (Ortega
