A battery independent power supply reduces significantly weight and dimension of the device [4]. Furthermore, the operation time is not limited to the battery charge [5], [6]. Consequently, it is possible to measure 24/7 inside a defined region, e.g., around the drinking bottle, feeding bowl, or inside the sleeping box. To demonstrate the capabilities of this concept, a second kind of movement sensor was also developed (see Fig. 3). The IMU part is based on the components of the active sensor. Additionally a wireless transceiver was added to transmit the sensor data continuously to a computer with a sampling rate of 35Hz. For this passive sensor concept the animals movement will be detected only on a platform which will be placed in the middle of the cage. The required power is inductively transferred from the platform to the passive sensor. The weight is 4grams. A concept is depicted in Fig. 4.
