We then asked two questions to ascertain the respondents’ awareness and concern about what chat providers do with their conversations after having sent and stored them. Fifty-seven percent of respondents showed concern that chat providers may mine the text of their chat conversations to provide better targeted advertising. The remaining 43% were either indifferent or not concerned. Forty-nine percent of respondents showed concern that chat providers permanently store their
messages while 51% were indifferent or not concerned. This suggests a possible entry point of attack where someone
malicious could assume the identity of another trusted person.
