Wat Suthat is a large monastery covering an area of 44,980 square meters that is located right at the very heart of Bangkok, in a site which local Thais call as “Krung Ratanakosin”. It’s history dates back to 1807 A.D. when H.M. King Rama I ordered it’s construction with the intention of having it represent the central point of Bangkok , akin to the palace of the god Indra, said to be located at the center of the universe. When the construction of the main chapel or viharnwas finished, the Phara Sri Sakayamuniprovince was brought over to reign over the temple, and the City of Bangkok for that matter.
Wat Suthat itself is a focal point for many interesting architectural, sculptural, and visual highlights reflective of Buddhist theme and philosophy
