Study protocol
A total of 175 cases and 350 controls were recruited into
our study. Table 1 showed the distribution of cases and controls
according to socio-demographic characteristics. Cases
were more likely to be smokers, had higher BMI and helicobacter
pylori infection, but less education.
The relationship of aspirin and stomach cancer was
shown in Table 2. Regular use of aspirin was associated
with a reduced parameter estimate for stomach cancer
(OR ¼ 0.62,3 95% CI: 0.42e0.80). Dosage and tabletyears
use also showed lower risk (P ¼ 0.04 and 0.02,
respectively), but there was no significant decrease with
duration (P ¼ 0.09). As there was the potential for confounding
related to smoking and different smoking rate
