PROJECT SUMMARY
The Green Plot Ratio is a tool used to quantify planting within our built environment. It is a planning and landscape metric that provides a unique opportunity to readdress several pertinent issues relating to greening our urban environments including:
• how to reduce heat island effect in cities through the ecological properties of flora and fauna (environmental)
• how to enhance existing or proposed open spaces through the incorporation of planting for recreation and / or health and well being (social)
• how to capitalise on economic savings through greening practices and reap their building energy reduction benefits (economic)
The Green Plot Ratio research will draw from a data base of 100 buildings in the commercial, residential, industrial and mixed use sectors. Each building will be rigorously audited and the building data from the audit categorised and analysed to establish the optimal green plot ratio for the four main building typologies in Singapore coupled with a costing strategy for installation and maintenance.
