The udder and teats are washed clean dried and massaged for about 20 to 30 seconds. Milking begins about 1 minute later and continues for 6 to 8 minutes. After milking is completed the milking unit is removed manually or by computer and the teats are dipped in a week iodine solution. Figure 28.5 illustrates a rotary milking parlor design that allows cows to flow through the parlor in a circular pattern with the milking crew located centrally.
