Decentralized Reactive kanban (DRK), developed by Takahashi
and Nakamura (1999), was proposed as an alternative to MFC,
which focuses on guaranteeing a good performance of the
multiple-stage production systems and unstable changes in the
demand. DRK aims at controlling the inventories of each workstation
independently and thus, besides fulfilling the demand, it
keeps the average work in process level low and reduces the mean
waiting time in fulfilling an incoming order. More details about
this system can be found in Takahashi and Nakamura (1999) and
Takahashi and Nakamura (2002a, 2002b).
