3.7.3. Amide I and II band
Changes in the amide I band are indicative of changes in the
secondary structure of collagen. The amide I band corresponds predominantly
to C@O group stretching vibrations. Partially purified
salmon collagens presented a maximum IR absorbance range at
1632.7 cm1 in WP collagen and 1630.7 cm1 in FP collagen
(Fig. 3). The absorbance peak and frequency were similar for the
WP and FP groups, indicating a similar degree of collagen molecular
order (Payne & Veis, 1988).
