3.1.3. Crystallinity
In general, particles cut from Orientation L had high crystallinity (approximately 70%), and particles cut from Orientation R had low crystallinity (approximately 50%). Therefore, cutting wood from Orientation R, where the edge of the cutting tool was traveling perpendicular to the wood stem direction, should cause severe distortion or destruction to the original crystalline structure in the wood. In addition, within the same orientation, crystallinity of particles increased. However, this trend was not conclusive due to overlaps in confidence intervals (at the significance level of α = 0.05) for particles cut from Orientations L and R.
