Sure ka, your niece can tell her friends that she doesn't drink.
"No tomo." :)
However, if she goes to the party, she can also just drink soda ka.. They do have coke for every party! :)
And if she's shy, you might tell her to be open-minded about that way Chileans greet na ka. The greeting there is to kiss other's cheek or sometime it could only be bise (like in France). Many Thais are not comfortable with it at first but later one they get used to it ka. I'm sure these things are actually told at AFS camp in Thailand already. :)
What else should I add.. oh, if your niece love Thai food or wants to cook for her host family (which she should.. at least once), please bring things like Knor Tomyamkung or that type of thing ka. It's not that easy to find asian groceries in Chile even in Santiago. Mostly Asian food there represents Japanese food and there's no thai restaurant there. (They used to have one but they went out of business. However, I think there's some Thai dishes available at Hyatt in Santiago na ka).
Warm clothes, if she's gonna be living in the South, I suggest that she should buy the coats and jackets there ka because the ones sold in Thailand are not that thick enough for such weather. However, if she's going to the North, like me, she can bring clothes from Thailand because the weather there is practically hot (for Chileans). The normal temperature is from 22-27 degrees na ka.. kinda warm.
And when she gets there, it's gonna be Sales time at department store. So, she can do more shopping there ka.. the sale there is fantastic cuz sometimes it goes up to 80% discount! :)
If there's anything you'd like to know more, you can PM me or start another thread na ka. I'm happy to help ka. :)
