We have just come back from 2 weeks at the Dionysos Hotel. Our first impression of the hotel was quite good unfortunately it went downhill from here!
The rooms are incredibly small, upon arrival the room we were allocated had a funny smell and faced out onto the main road, however we contacted the manager and he did move us the following day to a quieter room on the other side of the hotel but it was still very small. The biggest problem with the hotel is the cleaning, although the maids do clean each day the whole hotel could do with a major clean and refurbishment. The bathrooms are so old that the tiles are cracked and the ceiling in our bathroom was falling apart. The superior rooms are decorated with wooden panneling which unfortunatley as all the baths leak has become stained and could explain the slightly funny smell - we looked in several rooms when changing and all the rooms had this problem.
We stayed bed and breakfast and although the breakfast was eatable it was nothing special and you have to be up early as breakfast finished at 9.30am and the hotel staff did not like you still eating after this time. The snacks at the pool bar were good and same prices throughout Paphos (which is extremely expensive) however if you are buying cold drinks it is better to go to Phillips shop over the road where they are half price. Prices in Paphos are higher than in the UK plus with the exchange difference like it is at present you have to add another 20%.
The one advantage the hotel does have is its location, you can pretty much walk to anywhere in Kato Paphos from the hotel and it is still reasonably quiet during the day.
Do not be fooled by the website that says they have a gym and sauna.... the gym is 3 peices of equipment that don't work in an old discarded bar in the cellar. We found out on our last day that this doubles up as the shower room if you need to shower before leaving, these showers leek thoughout the basement and explains the strange swamp like smell down there and mosquitoes!
Overall the hotel needs some money spending and a good tidy up but it seems that the staff and managment don't really care!
