Cedrela is a very important genus that includes fine timber species appreciated in
the world market. Usually, the species of Cedrela genus produce a lightweight fragrant
wood with very good resistance to wood-boring insects, and also rot-resistant outdoors.
The wood is often sold under the name “Spanish cedar” and it is the traditional wood used
for making furniture, as well as being used for general outdoor and construction work,
paneling and veneer wood (Pennington and Styles, 1981). The attributes of this wood
placed to C. fissilis, C. lilloi and C. balansae as threatened species (endangered status
according to IUCN, 2011).
