Resolution is the action of solving a problem, dispute, or contentious matter. The resolution for this story is that Mathilde had to work for ten years to get out of debt and give up all her luxuries and did hard demanding work and made her realize how easy she had it before with a great husband and easy life being taken care of by her husband. All this work made her more thankful and less upset about how "boring" and "sad" her life was and made her thankful. One day while walking she sees Madame, but Madame doesn't recognize her because Mathilde looks so worn out from ten years of work. Mathilde decides to finally tell Madame that she lost her necklace and had to replace it. Madame laughs and says that necklace was a fake and was basically worthless.
