In 2006 the new subfamily Kowmunginae consists of two genera: Kowmungia and Phacaspis were purposed in world catalog of Dolichopodidae by Yang et al.
However, it is unclear because both genera had many different characteristics (Grootaert and Meuffels, 1988) such as shape of the antennae, stalk hypopygium formed, setae of tibiae etc.
In addition, Kowmungia is apparently terrestrial while Phacaspis can be found on the mudflats in the front mangrove (Grootaert, 2006).
For this reason, the validity of the classification in subfamily Kowmunginae is controversial and there may be reconsideration
