As a way to express feelings
Freida Kahlo had polio as a child. Later, a bus
she was riding in was involved in an accident
and she was seriously hurt. Because of these
things, she experienced a lot of pain in her
life. Though she dressed in bright happy
colors, her paintings gave her the opportunity
to express her feelings about the pain and
other sorrows she experienced in her life.
Many artists use their work to express their
feelings and emotions. In this painting, notice
the drops of blood on her skin from the thorns
in the plant that is wrapping itself around her
neck.
Conclusion
Artists draw or paint themselves for many
reasons. These self‐portraits give them the opportunity to express their feelings, explore
who they are, and let others see them the way they want to be seen.
