densities occurred on Pisonia grandis, on which the introduced coccid scale
Pulvinaria urbicola Cockerell (previously unrecorded in Seychelles; G. Watson,
personal communication) was encouraged by yellow crazy ants. When ants and scale
insects were excluded from the calculations, significant differences in invertebrate
densities on foliage still remained for some tree species (Table 2); for three of the
plant species studied, invertebrate densities were higher in Anoplolepis-infested
areas, although Scaevola sericea had higher densities of invertebrates in ant-free
locations.
