Singapore Airlines has a long-standing reputation for exceptional service, and when it became the first airline to fly an A380 it developed a reputation for innovation too. Rather than operating a standard first-class service on that new aircraft, the carrier instead launched what it called suites. Individual cabins with sliding doors, they offered those first privileged guests a peerless level of privacy.
Comfort was given consideration too, and each suite is spacious enough to accommodate a standalone bed, rather than one that is converted from a seat. A signature turndown service, with fresh linen and proper pillows, mean drowsy guests can rest easily.
As for dining, the airline offers a "book the cook" option that enables passengers to select an individual main before boarding the aircraft. On flights from Singapore, over 60 different dishes can be selected - such choice seems appropriate given those on board will be leaving a destination with near-unmatched culinary diversity.
It's meant to be one of the best flying experiences on offer but how does it work in practice? Below aviation journalist John Arlidge gives his review on what it's like to fly in Singapore Airlines' A380 first-class suites.
