The present class room action study dealt with improving the reading
comprehension of the eighth grade students of SMPN Satu Atap Jungutan through
jigsaw technique. The selection of the eighth grade students of SMP Satu Atap
Jungutan was preceded by conducting a preliminary study. Based on the study it
was found that the eighth grade students of eighth grade students of SMPN Satu
Atap Jungutan students faced problem in reading comprehension. The
effectiveness of this teaching strategy could be clearly seen by comparing the
score of initial reflection to post test in cycle II. The low initial reflection score,
which was 42.00 gradually improve to 56.00 in cycle I. The students even showed
more improvement in cycle II, as the mean score achievement of cycle II was
84.23 this mean score was collected in post test 1 (56.00) and improve to post test
2 (72.50) then divided by two. After following the cycle II, the grand mean figure
of the students‟ improvement increase exceedingly to 75.50 this grand mean score
was gained from adding two mean scores of post test 3 (74.25) and post test 4
(80.75) and divided by two. Students‟reading comprehension can be improved by

Jigsaw tehcnique . The questionnaire that researcher had given to the
subject under study showed the students‟ positive changing behavior. The interest
of the subjects under study to learn English especially reading comprehension was
increased by the used of jigsaw technique. It was supported by requiring data from
the questionnaire item to the subject under study showed an comparative
percentage of 63.40% for item A, 34.% for item B, 7.17 % for item C, and 0 %
for item D.
The findings of the present classroom action study convincingly proved
and showed that the problem on reading comprehension by the eighth grade
student of SMPN Satu Atap Jungutan, could be adequately overcome through
some exercises in reading comprehension taught through jigsaw technique. It
could be conclude that improving reading comprehension through jigsaw was
effective technique.
Thus, the problems faced by the eighth grade students of SMPN Satu
Atap Jungutan in reading comprehension could be solved by using jigsaw
technique on teaching learning process. The hypothesis, the jigsaw technique
could improve reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of SMPN Satu
Atap Jungutan , was proved. It could therefore be concluded that jigsaw could
improve the students‟ reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of
SMPN Satu Atap Jungutan in academic year 2012/2013.
