2.2.2. Determination of total polyphenol content (TPC) and
antioxidant capacity
For the analysis of bioactive parameters, total polyphenol
content and radical scavenging capacity of previously prepared
extracts were determined. Total polyphenol content (TPC) of
prepared extracts was determined spectrophotometrically bythe Folin-Ciocalteu reagent, according to a modified method of
Lachman et al. (1998). All analyses were carried out in triplicate
and the results were expressed as mg gallic acid equivalents (GAE)
per g of dry matter (DM) of plant material. For the assessment of
antioxidants capacity, the Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity
(TEAC) were estimated by the ABTS radical cation decolorization
assay (Re et al., 1999). The results, obtained from triplicate analyses,
were derived from a calibration curve determined for Trolox
(100–1000 mol/L) and expressed as Trolox equivalents per g of
DM of sample.
