Seeking to genealogically trace practices thatm ight inform the field today, fromD ada toM oMA films, I play with the idea that ABER has legacies from which practitioners may draw.W hile not labeled ABER forms, I include arts installation and performance art interventions, from Ubu Rois scatalogical romp in the late 19th century (Jarry, 1961), and Dada in the 1920s, to Fluxus in the mid-century, and political provocations of ACT-UP (AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power), and the Guerilla Girls as precursors to late 20th century arts-based research.5
Mid-20th century chance music, choreographic and visual collabo rations between John Cage, Merce Cunningham, and Robert Rauschenberg, or conceptual performances by Yoko Ono, Nam June Paik, and Charlotte Moorman, might inform ABER musical inquiry.
