Denim washing is commonly carried out through several stages
including desizing, washing, enzyme treatment with cellulase,
washing and softening consuming a great deal of water and energy.
Combination of different processing stages of denim garment reduces the water and energy consumption thereby, increasing the
production yield and decreasing production costs. Based on the
results, bio-desizing and bio-washing of denim garment has been
successfully carried out in one step by using amylase, cellulase and
laccase together with no remarkable color change comparing to the
desized sample treated with cellulase and laccase. The operation
time and energy consumption has been reduced significantly. The
samples treated with cellulase and laccase enjoy lower creasing
with reduced weight loss in addition, the non-desized samples
treated with amylase/cellulase and laccase show similar properties
of the samples treated in two steps of bio-desizing and biowashing.
Also, treated fabrics with three enzymes indicated lower
back-staining with reasonable abrasion resistances up to 10,000
cycles. This can be prolonged with application of other enzymes
such as lipase to extend the quality of desizing and improved color
reduction of denim garment or using other materials such as silicones
softeners to enhance some other characteristics of the
garment specially handle
