Innovations such as computer-based patient records, hospital information systems and
decision support tools are beginning to affect the cost, quality and accessibility of
healthcare. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary for the National Health System (NHS) in
Greece to adapt to people’s needs and also to focus on the disposition of integrated
healthcare. Furthermore, the continuous increase in the expenses invested in healthcare
intensifies the need for transformation of public health having to deal with problems
concerning limited resources and continuously increasing demographic problems.
Healthcare has been an issue of growing importance for national governments. Many
national and regional healthcare plans have been developed in the past decades in order
to control the cost, quality and availability of healthcare for all citizens.
