Adolescent fathers are similar to adolescent mothers;
they are more likely than their peers who are not
fathers to have poor academic performance, higher
school drop-out rates, limited financial resources,
and decreased income potential.37–39 Some fathers
disappear from the lives of their adolescent partners
and children,40 but many others attempt to stay involved,
and many young fathers struggle to be involved
in their children’s lives.40,41 Current programs
in adolescent pregnancy and parenting are
exploring ways to reach and engage young fathers in
the lives of their children.
