Martin Luther King, Jr. was born January in Georgia. He became a civil rights leader and Baptish minister. He was influenced by Mahatma Ganhi’s policy of non-violent resistance and organised opposition to segregationist policies. Over 200,000 people took part in his ‘March on Washington’ in 1963 when he made his ‘I have a dream’ speech. He was assassinated in 1968 by a write extremist.
