Invasive plant species are commonly recognized to have severe
ecological impacts in a wide range of ecosystems throughout the
world (Vitousek et al., 1996; Levine et al., 2003). The study of
conditions facilitating invasions and the consequences of invasion
offer insight into fundamental questions in ecology and evolution
(Vitousek et al., 1987; Vitousek, 1990; Crawley et al., 1999), and is
of great practical importance in providing a better understanding
of the threat to ecological communities.
