Wear resistances of porous Cr3C2 ceramic and Cr3C2/epoxy composite
in dry air at room temperature were evaluated by a pin-on-disc
tribometer. Fig. 6 compared the wear tracks of porous Cr3C2 ceramic
and Cr3C2/epoxy composite. From the visual senses, the wear resistance
of Cr3C2/epoxy composite is better than that of porous Cr3C2 ceramic. In
order to estimate the wear resistance accurately, the track widths and
wear coefficients were measured and calculated. The track width on porous
Cr3C2 ceramic sample is 2.34 mm, however, that of Cr3C2/epoxy
composite is only 0.49 mm (Fig. 6). Fig. 7 was the wear coefficients of
porous Cr3C2 ceramic and Cr3C2/epoxy composite and corresponding
volume loss. The wear coefficient of porous Cr3C2 ceramic is two orders
of magnitude higher than that of Cr3C2/epoxy composite, which illustrate
that the filling of epoxy improves the wear resistance of porous
Cr3C2 ceramic greatly. This should attribute to the following reasons:
