The periodically fermented soup (2 lL) was filtered through
Whatman No. 1 paper and subjected to chromatography in a
descending solvent system [n-butanol: acetic acid: distilled water
(4:1:5)]. The starch hydrolytic products were identified on the
basis of Rf values after silver nitrate staining (1.2% AgNO3 + 0.1%
KOH + 5% Na2S2O3) (Maity et al., 2011).
