Conclusion
Water, sediments and fish from obtained within quarry environment in Akamkpa Local
Government Area, Nigeria had higher concentrations of heavy metals. Pb, Mn, Cr and Cd
recorded levels above the international permissible limits in water. In sediment samples Cu, Mn,
Pb, Cr and Cd, recorded higher values than the (WHO) permissible limits in sediment. The fish
tissues ( liver, gills) of Heterotis niloticus, Oreochromis niloticus and Clarias gariepius
showed higher levels of heavy metals. Therefore fish species caught within quarry environment
pose health hazards for consumers.
