Dear Colleagues,
I have just been informed of the sad passing of His Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
At this time of national mourning, I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to all my Thai colleagues and friends.
Some years ago I had the great good fortune to spend a couple of years working in Thailand and since that time the Kingdom has held a very special place in my heart. It was since then that I understood the privileged position, with deep respect and affection, your hard working Monarch has held by all Thais in their hearts. His Majesty the King devoted his long life to the service of his people. He excelled in so many different skills and initiated thousands of development projects across the country, but one area that resonates particularly with all of us at Unilever is his early understanding of the importance of sustainability and the development of his Sufficiency Economy philosophy.
His Majesty the King was truly admired by most nations around the world. His Majesty has received much international recognition for his development work and His legacy will last for many generations to come. The best tribute the nation can pay to him is to accept his departure with peace, love and political unity as a country that represents a unique example of social harmony and collective wisdom for Asia and many others in the world.
Sincerely yours,
Pier Luigi
